What is the role of the national governing body of the ITF? The NGB is the national focal point for the ITF, to ensure that member schools are informed, supported, and granted full and equal access to the international organization. Key roles include the processing of Black Belt Dan certifications, national communication of news and information, coordinating national qualifiers to select, train, and support national teams to compete in the World Championships, and facilitating international instructor courses (among many other duties).
Who runs the NGB? The ITF-USA is a democratic organization, with officers elected by the members. Officers include the President, Secretary-General, Sr. Vice President, Vice Presidents, and Treasurer. In addition, there are appointed subcommittees, such as Marketing, Promotions, and Technical Committees to serve as functionally responsible groups for certain areas of operation.
What is required to join the ITF-USA? Schools and practitioners of the original art of Taekwon-Do, as developed and taught by General Choi, are welcome. We practice a curriculum which is based on the original 24 patterns of Taekwon-Do developed by the General, also known as the Chang Hon or Chon-Ji pattern set. We look for members that practice the original Taekwon-Do, and adhere to the fundamental tenets of Taekwon-Do (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit). Black Belts and schools that follow this curriculum, and either have ITF dan certificates or would like to learn our system and gain ITF certification, are welcome. Applications for membership are available on our website at www.ITF-USA.org.
